2025 SET SAIL IN STURGEON BAY

Sturgeon Bay Swimmers

Lauren Pennington
Bay Shore Outfitters
59 N Madison Ave

I received my BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in painting and drawing. After exploring different art mediums over the years, I currently use clay, watercolor, gouache and colored pencil art mediums the most often. As an elementary art teacher, I like to share my art projects with my students. My students loved seeing the progression of my sailboat and even gave me advice on my design’s color scheme. I am grateful for the opportunity to work on the Set Sail project and I hope the Sturgeon Bay community and its visitors enjoy viewing my work.

Camping Scenery

Gwen Gregory & Kenny Gregory
Nightingale Supper Club/West Waterfront
120 N Madison Ave

This is a mother and son project that we had been dreaming about doing for quite some time. Kenny came up with the concept of painting a camping scene. We don’t have much experience painting, so we were learning along the way. We not only had to agree on our artist vision, but we also had to technically practice painting as well! It was amazing to paint the beautiful scenes we enjoy when camping together. I hope people who look at our work can feel both the peace of a sunset, as well as the mesmerizing beauty of a night sky. We will always cherish the memory of making this together!

Our Waters

Blaze Woldt, Phil Uttech & Thomas Weyker
The Greystone Castle
8 N Madison Ave

We present to you a vision from within the creative walls of Calibre Boat Repair. Usually we are busy at work, but this project offered us a chance to express some of our other interests. We love where we live and the richness that Sturgeon Bay holds in its history of shipbuilding, sailing, and fishing. Here, we attempted to flow the wonder of our waters onto this canvas.

starry sail into the milk yway

Rebecca Ann Struck
Action Realty
49 W Maple St

“Starry Sail into the Milky Way” is a cosmic dreamscape painted directly onto the sails of a boat, using only spray paint and paper as tools. This piece transforms a functional object into a moving canvas, capturing the mystery and motion of the universe in a swirl of stars and galactic light. My background includes chalk, sand, and nature-inspired art, often created live and in unconventional spaces. I’m drawn to raw, immersive mediums like spray paint that echo the energy of the outdoors and invite viewers to imagine what’s possible when art sails beyond imagination.

Peninsula Pearl

Helen del Guidice
Westwood Shores Resort/T. Simon Jewelers
69 S Madison Ave

The Peninsula Pearl is made with black lace embellished with vintage buttons, pearls and brooches inspired by ultra-femme pirate glam. Search the ship for dolphins, fish, turtles and stunning starfish!

Serenity

Amy Anderson
Articipation
10 E Oak St

I am a self-taught dot mandala artist and have been painting for 3 years. I use small rods to make each dot one by one. I find the process relaxing and I love the resulting patterns and vibrant colors of mandalas. This piece is inspired by the feelings of healing and calm that wash over me when I am near the water. You can find me on Facebook at Mad Dots Art.

Siren & sails

Annie Larsen
Kitty O’Reilly’s Irish Pub
59 E Oak St

Opposite sides of the sails are day and night. On one side is a beautiful day in Door county and on the other is the moonlight of death’s door with it’s Siren. For 25 years I have been an art teacher in Green Bay Public Schools.

Nauti yachti

Bryce Remy
Holiday Music Motel
20 N 1st Ave

Nauti Yachti is a vibrant stained glass mosaic that celebrates the spirit of sailing and the beauty of Sturgeon Bay. This piece features colorful sailboats gliding across shimmering waters and includes a hidden easter egg honoring 25 years of public art in the community. My artistic journey includes participation in public art programs across Oshkosh, Egg Harbor, and Sturgeon Bay—bringing to life giant nutcrackers, cherries, lake flies, and now, a sail—each piece a celebration of local identity and creativity.

Color my World

Renate Gregory
Steel Bridge Creative Foundation
59 N 2nd Ave

As an artist based in Sturgeon Bay, I am inspired by the stunning landscape of Door County. Attempting to capture the peacefulness of our surroundings. One side was painted with the vibrant hues of lavender fields and the striking contrast of birch trees. The other side focuses more on the birch trees with some wild lavender plants around the trees. This side was made to look like a medal sculpture. I hope you enjoy this peice as much as I enjoyed making it.

This piece was painted using acrylic paints and sealed in several layers of UV protected varnish.

S.S. Keith Haring

Ken Klopack
Dancing Bear
13 N 3rd Ave

This was a lot of fun for me. Keith Haring’s art is iconic and appears in every facet of our society. His work has influenced generations of artists since his arrival in the late 70s..Among all the outdoor displays I have created, this is one of the most exciting and interesting to look at. It allows the viewer to decide what each visual means and gives license to everyone to create their own narrative about what they are viewing. ENJOY !! I am an artist from Chicago and have exhibited in the Midwest for many years. My paintings are twofold. My figurative work in painting and drawing depicts the Midwest. My Jazz Series abstract works represents the music of Jazz Greats. Check out my website at kenklopackart.com.

Sailors Delight

Jeffery Olson
Door County Eye Associates
165 N 3rd Ave

The sail was painted in acrylic paint and sealed with clear coating of enamel. The sail depicts sailboats sailing the waters around Door County at twilight. The name for the sail comes from the statement “red sky at night sailors delight.” I have a masters in painting and sculpture, but am probably better known for my limestone sculptures which you can see around Door County. I taught art for 35 years at all levels up to a graduate course in air brush painting. I also am a champion snow and ice carving artist competing in National and International competitions.

Peril at sea

Jen Polster
On Deck Clothing Co.
265 N 3rd Ave

Influenced by surrealism, the exterior of the sail depicts the calm waters and a tranquil sunset with a curious creature below. Both sides describe peace and peril. The interior of the sail depicts the cabin at an angle that suggests the ship is peacefully underway. The tentacles seen through the porthole suggests otherwise. The creature I painted is the peril disturbing what would be peaceful scenes.

Pink skies & after storm

Deb Stroh-Larson
Quantum Technologies
619 N 8th Ave

My two sided sails are inspired by the water and sunsets, sunrises and amazing skies created by the clouds and light. Each one is so unique, there were so many to choose from in my photos! Sailors must marvel at being out on the water and the feeling of the lighting created by incoming and parting storms with amazing light bursting throught the clouds.I discovered painting in high school and college. I’ve learned a lot through wonderful Door County Artists workshops over the years and self discovery through practice. https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/deb-stroh-larson.

My sails celebrate the beauty of Door County’s cherry trees as they change through the seasons.

I have enjoyed participating in the Sturgeon Bay Street Art events asa means for giving back to the community. Ride the wave

Shari Brzinski
Bliss
58 N 3rd Ave

As an artist and art therapist, my work explores the movement, emotion, and healing power of nature—especially the water that continually moves and changes. I worked with acrylic and texture paste to build depth that echos the rhythm of waves and the golden hues of sunset sails. This piece is a reminder to “ride the waves”—to embrace life’s shifts with resilience and grace. Since 2018, I’ve been honored to contribute annually to the Sturgeon Bay Street Art Auction, where public art brings community and creativity together. My practice blends therapeutic insight with artistic expression, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect—with the world, and with themselves.

Alexis is a professional photographer and mixed-media artist. Her sail celebrates the Great Lakes, which make our area so wonderful. She used vintage maps & papers to create a mixed-media collage. Alexis drew inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg, embracing found objects and images from everyday culture to develop a sense of randomness and juxtaposition in the work.

Just a boy

Jessica Bowne
Door County Candy
12 N 3rd Ave

This piece was inspired by my love of sailboats. I instantly knew when the opportunity was presented to paint these beautiful sailboat pieces, I was going to paint something featuring a sailboat. I then knew I wanted to feature a landmark of Door County, so became the Canal Station Light Tower that stands at the opening of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. Hopefully this piece allows you to reflect on your own childhood and remember the hopes and aspirations you had. The boy playing with his sailboat inspires us all to follow our dreams.

Cherry on top

Paul Haan
ERA Starr Realty
14 S 3rd Ave

This piece imagines a sailboat not on water, but rising from the land. Each sail features a different view of cherry blossoms in bloom, photographed just north of Sturgeon Bay—two quiet scenes from Door County’s fleeting spring. The hull, wrapped in grass, roots the vessel as if it’s growing instead of drifting. Known for its orchards and shorelines, Door County becomes both backdrop and subject. It’s a meditation on movement without leaving, and the blossoms? They’re the cherry on top—ephemeral, familiar, and unmistakably part of this place’s rhythm and charm.
